The selection of a site for a Cell Tower in Fair Haven has been a burning issue for a number of years among residents, Borough Officials, State Legislators, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and the Cellular Carriers.
There have been times during the last few years that we have tried to move this "hot potato" from one neighborhood to another, causing a deep rift between different neighborhoods in Fair Haven and between the Borough Council and Fair Haven residents. These groups are now aligned as the Borough reapplies to the DEP for a land swap that would be beneficial to all parties involved and would allow locating a Cell Tower in Fair Haven Fields. Several sites have been considered by the Borough Council for erecting a cell tower. Each of these borough-owned sites is in the immediate neighborhood of residential homes, only a few feet away from homes where families with young children grow up. Verizon Wireless has applied for a variance to erect a cell tower on privately owned property that is also close to residences with families. We have come to recognize that it is important that we all work together toward a common cause - locating the Cell Tower as far distant as possible from residences and schools. In order to achieve this goal, we have banded the forces of all of the neighborhoods in Fair Haven together under the banner of "Residents for the Future of Fair Haven." This Web site serves as information repository for our group. It provides information and facts about the specific locations under consideration, gathers information about cell towers in general and about the impact a cell tower would have on any residential neighborhood. The Web site also provides contact information and advises how concerned residents can engage and support our case for finding a cell tower location that is in the interest of all Fair Haven residents - for the well being of all of us!
